Soren, a barn owl, has finally escaped from St. Aggies, a dark prison where malevolent owls kidnap owlets and “moon blink” them, a form of hypnosis that makes the prisoners go crazy! He is on a journey with his best friends, Glyfie, Twilight, and Digger, to the Ga’ Hoole Tree. The tree is inhabited by an army of owls who rise up each night and do noble deeds. However, the journey to the Ga’ Hoole Tree will be their easiest test yet. Soren and his friends will soon realize that before they can become Guardians of Ga’ Hoole, they must first be put into “chaws”, a group in which owls learn various abilities and face great challenges. Here they are trained by their “rybs” (teachers). In their training they will do perilous tasks, learn many new skills, and maybe even discover what is the “you only wish”, which is an organization that could be far worse than St. Aggies. The most gripping part, however, is when Soren, Glyfie, Twilight, and Digger have a grueling battle against a “mobbing” of crows. It is obvious that after this battle, Soren discovers that flying in the day is far too dangerous because of these crows. Can Soren continue at this fast pace and accomplish all his tasks? Can he and his friends help fight the evil that lurks in the owl kingdom?
