THE GOLDEN COMPASS by Philip Pullman

The Golden Compass is an exciting book about a girl who knows more than almost anybody in the world. She has an Alitheometer (a truth teller) which tells her if people are friends or enemies. It also helps her make the right decisions. There are people who are after her called The Goblers who cut away demons (which are life long pets who before puberty can change but after they take the form of one creature). I very much enjoyed this book and I think you will too.

A CHILD CALLED IT by Dave Peltzer

This autobiography by Dave Peltzer is based on the terrible life he lived with his druggy mother who believed that he was worth nothing. I can still remember her hardened words that had not come from the booze and liquor but had escaped from her hateful heart. This story is written from Dave’s heart and this was probably only half of the abusing situation. I’m quite sure you will cry your eyes out just like I did because it was so sad and on top of that it was true. I would suggest that you read this novel and learn how he survived.
