Mia Thermopolis is a five foot – nine, fourteen year old freshman, with size ten shoes, and does not have a boyfriend. Everyone at school thinks she is a freak because of this. Also, she has a crush on Josh Richter, the most popular boy in school. He is going out with Lana Weinberger, the most popular girl in school. Mia’s parents are divorced and her dad lives on Genovia. Her mom, Helen Thermopolis, is a painter and going out with Mr. Gianini, her Algebra teacher. Just as if that is not enough for her to handle, her dad tells her she is the princess of Genovia, and her grandma must give her princess lessons every day after school. How will Mia handle this? This is a great book and I highly recommend it!

Her last name, Thermopolis, is Greek for Warm City. There is an oddity of it, that is the town in Wyoming called, Thermopolis. I know a few people via television: Newel Sessions, and John David Morris (known as Gabby on TV).
