The Cookcamp By: Gary Paulsen

The Cookcamp
By: Gary Paulsen

The Cookcamp is about a little boy. In the book he was named “The boy”. First he lived with his mother and father until his father left for war. His mother wanted to stay home by herself with his uncle. However, it was not his uncle. His mother was just a liar, because that was her new boyfriend. She wanted to spend time with him so he sent the little boy out to his grandmother. The grandmother lived in a campground. The campground had many workers that were very hungry. Some of them were very gentle. When the boy was down because of his mother, they would comfort him. After the long hard days of work, the workers would come in the Cookcamp which was run by his grandmother. Sometimes they would actually scare the young boy because of their size. At night his grandmother would read him books and comfort him with a nice glass of milk. One scary day, one of the workers broke a leg and he was rushed to the hospital leaving the boy with the rest of the workers. Read the wonderful book to see what happens next…
