“The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle” is a great adventure and mystery novel for readers age 11 to adult. This book takes place in the year of 1892 in England when 14 year old Charlotte boards the Seahawk to sail home to America. As she boards, she doesn’t know of the danger that lay ahead of her. At first, the crew treats her like the young proper woman she is, with fancy meals and her own room. But then, the crew’s true cruelty shows and Charlotte is terrified. Little does she know that she soon will have to join the crew. Soon after, she is convicted of the murder of a crew member. She has to pay the price but escapes with the help of her new friend, Zachariah, the ships cook. After many gruesome murders and fights, Charlotte arrives home. She has to go back to her proper ways and deal with her parents when she tells them about her love for the sea. Then, one night she decides to run away and join the crew of the Seahawk.
