The Jade Dragon By: Carolyn Marsden

The Jade Dragon is a book about a Chinese-American girl named Ginny. Ginny wants to make friends with another Chinese classmate, but isn’t sure how to approach her. Finally, Ginny is invited to Jennifer’s house. She learns her friend is adopted from China by her American parents. Therefore the original customs and traditions that Ginny is used to, Jennifer has no clue about. In a holiday party Jennifer suddenly asks Ginny if she can take home a jade dragon from Ginny’s decoration cabinet. What should Ginny say? Should she give away her mom’s most prized possession to keep her friend or lose her friend and protect her family heirloom?
