Julie of the Wolves by: Jean Craighead George

Julie of the Wolves is a book about an Eskimo girl who gets lost in the Arctic. She tries to be friends with the wolves and be part of their pack. She depends on the wolves for food while she tries to make her way back home to her father. She has to depend on nature, the stars, and has to keep herself alive. Do you think she can make it? Do you think she has the guts to live with the wolves? If you want to find out you will have to read this book.

Julie wants to escape from her husband and all of a sudden she arrives at this unique place full of large wolves. What will she do now? She starts talking to a very large wolf but he is so busy hunting that he doesn’t notice her. Once the pack of wolves noticed her, she was scared. But after she lives with them she realizes that they are very nice and loving, that they hunt for her. But then she has a flashback about her husband. She remembers all of the terrible things that happened between them. He made her do things that she didn’t want to do. When she stopped thinking about her past, Jello took her pack. She was so sleepy that she fell asleep. The next morning she found Jello in bloody pieces and she knew Amoroq had done that and put the pack next to him. The next day she left for San Francisco, when she saw a grizzly bear ahead. The wolves were trying to save her as they always do because of their generosity. Mayax had survived and she thought of how lucky she was to have wolf friends. Mayax knew that Amoroq would one day train Kapu to be a leader and that day came. While this was happening a plane flew overhead and Mayax knew that it was the men hunting because gunshots were coming from the plane. But what she didn’t know was that Amoroq was shot, she stayed calm until the plane disappeared and what she realized was that these men killed animals for no reason. As she was taking care of Kapu, friendly people found her and told a story of Kapugen, her father but she didn’t tell them that he was her father. Thanks to the story Mayax found her father.

I love this book. Miyax a.k.a Julie runs away from home and starts to live with a large pack of wolves. She observes them as time goes on and learns how to survive without their help. It is a great book that I recommend to all survival lovers.
