SAMMY KEYES AND THE SKELETON MAN by Wendelin Van Draanen

Sammy Keyes is a typical teenage girl except for the fact that she is illegally living in a senior high rise with her grandma because her mom is in Hollywood trying to become famous. Sammy has no idea who her father is and is always getting in trouble. In her neighborhood, there is a house that everyone thinks is haunted called the Bush House because the hedges have grown very high. On Halloween, Sammy decides to go and knock on the door of the Bush House. As she steps into the tunnel of bushes, a man in a skeleton costume that looks way over twenty practically runs over her. She goes and knocks on the door, and it swings open. She can’t see anything, except a fire that would soon burn the house down. Once again, Sammy Keyes is in the middle of a mystery that she is very determined to solve.
